Designers today are tasked with inventing forms that address large abstract problems and communicate across multiple contexts. We will examine what happens when we use iteration as a way of making the intangible tangible, and discover how the process itself can be a material to build meaning with. Ultimately, this method of repetitive formal inquiry is a means to clarify and convey a nuanced idea.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Assignment<\/strong><br \/>\nIn\u00a0class,\u00a0you\u00a0will\u00a0receive an intangible action.\u00a0Over\u00a0the\u00a0course\u00a0of the week, investigate the action by creating 50 pieces that express, clarify the action to make it visible and tangible. Your goal is not only to explore multiple expressions of this action, but to force a\u00a0reconsideration of its archetypal form through a process of iteration and experimentation.<\/p>\n<p>In order to create a vast range of approaches, you should employ both traditional and non-traditional design tools\u2014ranging from analog to digital\u2014to create both static and dynamic executions.\u00a0As\u00a0you\u00a0work,\u00a0consider\u00a0how\u00a0each iteration and tool opens a\u00a0unique\u00a0opportunity\u00a0to\u00a0communicate\u00a0something new and unexpected about\u00a0this\u00a0action, and do it in a novel way.<\/p>\n<p>For\u00a0next\u00a0week,\u00a0present\u00a0all\u00a050\u00a0visual\u00a0expressions\u00a0of\u00a0your action in a\u00a01920\u00a0x 1068 horizontal keynote presentation.\u00a0Consider\u00a0how\u00a0the\u00a0presentation\u00a0of\u00a0these\u00a0iterations\u00a0will\u00a0work\u00a0both individually and\u00a0together, and\u00a0potentially\u00a0give\u00a0insight\u00a0into\u00a0the\u00a0tools\u00a0and the process of how your worked.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Learning Objectives<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2014Use iteration as a means to understand\/communicate nuanced content<br \/>\n\u2014Create tangible form to convey intangible ideas<br \/>\n\u2014Express an idea from multiple perspectives<br \/>\n\u2014Gain comfort with a range of tools<br \/>\n\u2014Present work and process to convey a story <\/p>\n<p><strong>Extended Portion (3 week portion)<\/strong><br \/>\nHow can we make the intangible into an app?<\/p>\n<p>You will propose and design an app that uses your given action as its primary function. The app should deploy the action as a means to do something you care about in a faster, better, or more exciting way. <\/p>\n<p>Approach the project in three steps:<\/p>\n<p><em>1. Propose what the app does.<br \/>\n<\/em>Write a brief description of what the app does, how it works, who it\u2019s for, why it\u2019s important.<\/p>\n<p><em>2. Show what the app looks like. <\/em><br \/>\nDesign the name and brand for the app (including the app icon, two basic screens and a poster announcing it.<\/p>\n<p><em>3.
